The new SEC chairman in Trump's new term, cryptocurrency lawyer Teresa Goody Guillén, has a high profile, sparking industry follow
CoinDesk cited sources as reporting that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has named veteran securities lawyer Teresa Goody Guillén as one of the candidates for the new chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Teresa Goody Guillén is a partner at the law firm BakerHostetler and co-leader of the Block team. Informed sources familiar with the matter indicate that she has extensive expertise in securities law, litigation, and investigations. She previously served at the SEC in the United States and later transitioned to representing Block chain companies and traditional Financial Institutions in litigation, often facing off against the SEC, making her an ideal reform leader in the Cryptocurrency industry.
Co-founder Brendan Playford of decentralized data provider Masa said, "She is the best choice among all the nominees. Her professional background enables her to quickly change the status quo and thoroughly transform the industry environment."
Brendan Playford pointed out that Teresa Goody Guillén has a deep understanding of securities regulations and the operation of the SEC, and holds a friendly attitude towards cryptocurrencies. If appointed, she will bring significant policy changes to the regulatory agency, which will have a profound impact on the entire industry.
Insiders say that the Trump team hopes to select a "pro-Crypto Assets", "non-bureaucratic" candidate to promote the SEC to implement loose regulatory policies and end the practice of "enforcement instead of supervision".
If Teresa Goody Guillén is appointed, she will replace the current SEC chairman Gary Gensler, who has recently begun to refer to his position in the past tense and is expected to resign before the official inauguration on January 20th. This is in line with the tradition of the SEC chairman resigning during the transition period of the new government, and Trump promised to 'fire' Gary Gensler on his first day in office during the campaign.
The new chairman of the SEC in the United States is expected to be determined before Thanksgiving on November 28th, but Teresa Goody Guillén faces fierce competition. Other candidates under consideration reportedly include Robert Stebbins, partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Brad Bondi, partner at Paul Hastings, former SEC commissioner Paul Atkins, Dan Gallagher, Chief Legal Officer of Robinhood, and Brian Brooks, former Acting Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
