Analysis of Abyss World: Sui's ecological 3A masterpiece, 120,000 Steam wish list, can it carry the new hope of chain games?

On May 24, Web3 game studio Metagame Industries announced the completion of a round of strategic financing with a valuation of nearly US$100 million. Participating institutions include Sui development team Mysten Labs, game publisher Funplus/Xterio Ecosystem Fund, etc. Abyss World, a 3A-level game work under Metagame Industries, also announced that it will hold related activities on June 1. In addition to the endorsement of a luxurious financing team, it also has 120,000 players who have joined the Steam wish list. The question of "reversing the Sui ecology or the decline of the GameFi track" made the work full of expectations.
Abyss World is a third-person ARPG open world game, based on the high-performance public chain Sui network, and later expanded into a multi-chain game in parallel with Sui and Polygon. The background of the game is set in an overhead world called "Nordinia" full of ancient secrets. Players can explore this huge world in the game and decrypt it step by step in the direction of "Secrets of the Abyss".
Basic concept of the game
1. Heroes
The hero character of the game is a combination of occupation, race and characteristics.
(1) There are five occupations: Warrior, Musha, Mages, Engineer, and Explorer. Different occupations have different attributes, which can be divided into external attributes (physical strength, intelligence, magic power, luck) and internal attributes. The parameters of the external attributes determine the combat effectiveness and the minimum requirements for weapons and skills, and the internal attributes refer to the characters. combat skills.
(2) Races are divided into five races: Bannerlord, Human, Orne, Seracoron, and Sigma Elves. Different races show different combat characteristics in game competitions.
(3) Each hero has its own quirks/characteristics, positive or negative, such as "Captain" who buffs the team, "Fight to the Death" who will not retreat due to serious injuries (that is, is easier to die) wait.
2. How to play
The gameplay can be divided into two categories, one is the PVE mode in which players explore the environment in the game, and the other is PVP in The Abyss Colosseum (Abyss Colosseum) and The Battle Arena (Arena). The Ranch is an AI-driven battle after players are matched.
3. Assets
Different from the general dual-token model, the homogeneous assets that may generate value in Abyss World can be understood as "Token + points + stable currency". In the early stage of the game, there will only be one native Token in the game, that is, AWT with a fixed supply, and will not be directly used for governance or equity tokens; the second is the in-game currency MGC, which only exists as game points in the early stage. It is not on the chain for the time being, that is, there is no speculative attribute; the third is the stable currency USDT/USDC used for pricing and trading all in-game assets.
NFT assets can also be roughly divided into two types. The first is weapon or hero NFT, officially called commodity NFT (commodity NFT) or resource-generating NFT (resource-generating NFT); the second is non-weapon or hero NFT , officially called asset-based NFT (asset-based NFT).
Game and Economic System
According to different game modes, the player base can be roughly divided into two categories, one is casual players who mainly focus on PVE, and the other is competitive players who mainly focus on PVP. Casual and competitive players balance each other out economically without colliding in the same game. Casual players can obtain MGC, an in-game currency without speculative attributes, by completing PVE daily tasks. Using MGC points and collecting required game props (NFT fragments) can be used to cast weapons or hero NFT; casual players can use these weapons or heroes NFT is sold on the in-game trading market for profit. For the purpose of obtaining good rankings in different PVP competition leaderboards, competitive players need to increase the immediate combat power of their lineup by purchasing better weapons or hero NFTs in the trading market to increase the winning rate.
This kind of weapon/hero NFT through casting can be called resource-generated NFT. Casting these NFTs needs to be carried out in a specific NFT factory (NFTfactory) in the game, and casting NFTs will need to pay 3-5% of the casting fee as the source of income for the factory. In the early stage, the management right of the factory belongs to the game project party, so the casting fee of the factory is part of the profit generated by the game (the casting fee should be denominated in MGC, which also provides the basis for future MGC on-chain); in the future, the profit distribution of the factory Will be extended to long-term partners and stakeholders of the game. The minted NFT can be traded through the game's built-in C2C NFT market. Players use USDT/USDC stable currency to freely trade these NFTs. The transaction will generate a handling fee to be paid to the Foundation and its partners. Therefore, the C2C NFT market handling fee is generated by the game. Another place for profits.
Just as MGC is mainly responsible for weapon or hero NFT and PVE rewards, AWT is mainly responsible for non-weapon or hero asset NFT and core player incentives.
The first is that AWT serves as the raw material for asset NFTs. In the scenario given by the official document, it is explained as follows:
After the player completes the season task and obtains the treasure chest, he needs to use a key to open it. For a period of time, the ownership of the key can only be generated by destroying AWT, and the key can be freely traded in the market; the player who holds the key will be able to obtain the transaction fee for the items in the treasure box.
The official promises to design multiple similar scenes in the game to attract more participants who contribute value to the game while not destroying the game experience of traditional players. Although the official example is not clear, it can be speculated that both the key and the items in the treasure box will belong to the asset NFT, and the destroyed AWT is dynamic. The value of the key and the scarcity/functionality of the items in the treasure box complement each other. When the NFT items that can be opened in the treasure box are scarce enough or have a strong enough functional effect in the game, the potential value of the key will be higher. Since the pricing and transactions in the trading market are all denominated in stable coins, this also anchors a dynamic actual value for AWT. The more powerful items can be issued, the higher the value of the key, and the more AWT will be destroyed.
Secondly, AWT will allocate 40% of the total amount as incentives for the core players of the game ecology, including players who complete in-game tasks every week, PVP rewards, game guild operation rewards, proposal rewards and third-party market liquidity rewards.
Governance System
The governance system of Abyss World is also worth mentioning. It abandons the governance model of 1 Token 1 vote, does not allocate governance rights according to the number of AWT held by users, and pays more attention to the achievements of players in the game, and obtains based on multiple game indicators. Nominate governance seats, which can avoid the dilemma that large holders are not players, and ensure that large holders do not have too much power to speak in proposals. These in-game indicators may include top players in the season PVP leaderboard, players holding Gazer/Creation NFT or players holding key asset NFT, etc. In addition, Abyss World DAO will be formed after AWT is issued and circulated.
From the videos circulated on the Internet and the community's participation in the internal test Demo evaluation, the Abyss World game using the Unreal 5 engine has a high degree of completion, and its graphics are no less than some 3A masterpieces. Therefore, the game requires high computer configuration. In addition, the Abyss World team also attaches great importance to attracting Web2 player groups. It has demonstrated its determination by cooperating with the well-known game platform EPIC and promoting it on IGN and other well-known game media.
Of course, strictly speaking, Abyss World is still a Web2.5 game, that is, the assets are on the chain, but the game is not on the chain. From the economic system of Abyss World, it can be seen that the team behind it has deep thinking about the dual-token model of chain games, and has given its own "non-governance token + game currency points + stable currency pricing and transaction" based on this model. + Classified NFT” solution. However, in essence, it is still a repair to the dual-token model, rather than a breakthrough. Of course, this is not a problem with a certain game, but a dilemma faced by the entire blockchain game. The logic of Abyss World is what Capital often said before. Blockchain games should have image quality standards that do not lose to traditional games, and put game quality and player experience first, supplemented by Tokenomics.
In addition, although Abyss World initially tried to build around the Sui chain, in the subsequent planning, it may be because of better liquidity and native stablecoins on the EVM chain, gradually build some genesis assets on Polygon, and Sui will re-create It is planned to be used for game settlement, which may lead to issues in the future about the cross-chain security of EVM and non-EVM assets, and the incompatibility of a single wallet.
