Ripple (XRP) has announced that it has signed a critical collaboration agreement with another major platform: The potential could be significant!
Ripple has announced its integration with Wormhole, one of the leading cross-chain protocols, to enhance the multi-chain compatibility of the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
According to the announcement made by the company today, this integration will take place on the XRPL mainnet and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain.
In its statement, Ripple noted that "this integration with Wormhole will enable cross-chain messaging, asset transfers, and token issuance across multiple chains." This step is in line with Ripple's goal of playing a central role in the on-chain infrastructure of institutional finance.
The services of Wormhole are currently used by major financial institutions interested in digital assets, such as BlackRock, Securitize, and Apollo. Ripple's CTO and co-founder of XRPL, David Schwartz, stated, "Interoperability between chains is essential for true mass adoption. This infrastructure must be ready not just for one blockchain, but for all chains." Schwartz mentioned that thanks to integration, tokens directly issued on the XRP Ledger can be transferred across different networks while maintaining control and local issuance features during the process.
June was quite busy for Ripple. XRPL started supporting Circle's USDC stablecoin on the mainnet. The DeFi platform Ondo Finance added XRPL to the list of supported networks for US Treasury bond-based products. Additionally, Ripple announced plans to launch its EVM-compatible sidechain in the second quarter of this year.
Thanks to the new integration, developers and institutional investors will be able to transfer digital assets across more than 35 supported blockchains. Additionally, cross-chain smart contract interactions will also become possible.
